According to Wikipedia, “mutual aid is an organizational model where voluntary, collaborative exchanges of resources and services for common benefit take place amongst community members to overcome social, economic, and political barriers to meeting common needs.” To put that in plain English, mutual aid builds sustainable economies that don’t require money to operate, instead focusing on people giving what they can to those in need of what they’re giving, and also people receiving what they need (or desire if there is extra after needs are fulfilled).

You've probably seen a Little Free Library before, either in your neighborhood or elsewhere. Take a book or leave a book. The Little Free Pantry movement takes that idea, but expands it to food. A significant amount of people facing food insecurity will not qualify for government nutrition programs, and food banks may have requirements that people in need cannot meet. The Little Free Pantry solves this problem by providing those in need a place where they can go within their neighborhood without needing to worry about means testing.
Rural Liberation is getting involved in this movement by building Little Free Pantries in rural America. Fill out our form below if you're interested in having a Little Free Pantry installed on your property, and share it with others in your community that may also be interested!
