Many rural areas are facing rising housing costs that are driving out residents that have lived there for their entire lives. Places like Flagstaff, AZ, Jackson, WY, and Moab, UT are poster children for rural areas that have become extremely expensive due to their desirability. Restricting construction and zoning is counterproductive to solving this problem. Rural Liberation will fight against single-family zoning, support mixed-use and multifamily zoning, and support increases in subsidized housing to ensure that no one is priced out of their hometown. Doing this will ensure that our rural communities can grow sustainably.
Rural Liberation supports a $20 minimum wage for workers employed by large businesses, and a $15 minimum wage for workers employed by small businesses. This number is subject to change dependent on the cost of living of a given area we are advocating in. Additionally, we don't view this benefit as only going one way - we believe that when workers are financially secure, they are inclined to give more back to their employer. Rural Liberation will fight to increase wages on a local level when it cannot be done on a state or national level.
